Warming up is important if you do core exercises. If you have your abs routine after your workouts in that case your muscles are already warmed up, so doing some stretching is quite enough. If you start with core exercises, then it is critical to warm up before to avoid injuries.

How to get the most out from your abs workouts?
Firstly, you have to understand that you can only work your core muscles efficiently if you perform the exercises accurately. If you are a beginner, learn how to do the different motions correctly. If you do not feel that your abdominal muscles are working, then you may do it improperly. You also have to do enough sets and reps depending on your fitness level.
As you get familiar with the moves and your abs getting stronger, increase the number of repetitions and sets, and include more kinds of core exercises.
Another important thing you should keep in mind is that, you have to work all parts of your core which means not just the abdominis, but internal and external obliques and lower back. A complete core training routine is needed to get results.

How do you know if your abs routine is working?
If you feel your core muscles are tired and even there is a little pain in them, then that means your training was beneficial. If the next day you have muscle strain, that also indicates you worked those muscles efficiently.
On the other hand, this does not always mean you will have flatter tummy or six pack abs. In order to get great-looking belly, you will have to get rid of the fat covering the muscles, and this can be done by doing cardio and follow a healthy diet.

How long should you do routines?
Again quality is more important than quantity. You can take core workouts every day for 30 minutes if you perform the movements incorrectly, you will hardly notice any results.
The time you should spend on ab routines depends on how your abdomen looks like now. If it is covered with fat, you will have to spend more time with training your abs, cardio and you must be on a healthy diet.
If you already have a flat belly with no fat, then you may need to spend less time with abdominal workouts. In most of the cases, 5-20 minutes is enough.
How soon will I see results?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions, but it is hard to tell considering that this depends on your body type, your lifestyle, how often and how intensively you train, what you consume and many other factors.

How many abs exercises should I do per a workout?
As I have mentioned before a successful routine trains all sections of the core efficiently. Therefore, you will need to include different exercises. Personally, on a session I work all parts of my core. Check out the following exercises lists with videos for different parts of the core: lower abs, upper abs, obliques and lower back.
Anyway, if you have a weaker point, in that case you can add more exercises for that muscle group.

How many sets and reps should I do?
In my opinion, 3-5 sets and 10-30 reps per exercise is enough, although this mostly depends on the hardness of the exercises included in your routine.
How many times a week should I work my abdomen?
Some experts state that abdominal muscles can be trained every day, but I do not recommend it. These muscles are the same as any other muscles, so they require resting and recovering. Intensive and focused workouts 3-5 times a week are definitely enough.
Is the ab workout necessary?
Well, this depends on what you want to achieve and how quickly. If you do other sporting activities and movements which force your midsection to work, you are on a good diet, and you have low body fat level, you can have attractive stomach even without training your core.
However, most of us do not do movements and have training like these. So yes, you will have to do abdominal workouts if you want to get six pack abs and flatter belly.
On the other hand, you must not forget that, just because of doing ab workouts you will never have lean stomach. You have to get rid of the fat covering it by cardio and decent nutrition.
When is the best time?
I think, the best time is after your general workout, but you can have your ab routine on a separate day with cardio which is especially useful for burning fat.

How many calories burned with core workouts?
A big misconception of beginners is that they think they will lose belly fat if they train their core like hell. In most of the cases, this is not true. Regular abdominal exercises such as planks, sit ups or crunches, do not burn so much fat. You can burn calories by doing cardio and consuming fat burning foods.
Keep in mind, that ab workouts are mainly for toning and stimulating your midsection.
Can I do the same routine for a long time?
Well, if you have a routine that works and you see excellent outcomes, then you can do it. However, in my opinion it is always good to add some change into a routine.
